Harvard 1958

Harvard at Princeton
November 8th, 1958

Princeton wins 16-14

(Band marches out in satellite formation)

Ladies and gentlemen, the Princeton University Band presents a musical review of the news highlights of 1958. Throughout the year the news was dominated by the battle for control of outer space. Here comes a sputnik now.

“How High the Moon”

A new era of naval warfare was ushered in when the United States announced the successful cruises of several atomic-powered submarines. The Band now depicts one such submarine attempting to break through the ice at the North Pole.

“Sitting on Top of the World” (Band forms globe, tuba line near top as submarine)

An important event on the international political scene was the friendship established between Russia’s Kruschev and Communist China’s Mao Tse Tung.

“Mutual Admiration Society” (Band forms heart)

In 1958, as in all other recent years, Rock and Roll was always in the news. One of the new stars to appear was Jerry Lee Lewis. We tune in on Jerry Lee now as he serenades his beautiful 14-year old wife on his guitar.
